summer learning journey the next foundaion

Yesterday,  Panmure Bridge School held a special assembly to launch the 2017 /2018 Summer Learning Journey. We would like to thank all our guests who attended our assembly including Rachel and Hazel from the Wolf Fisher Research Centre, The NEXT Foundation, Manaiakalani, and members of our Board of Trustees. At the assembly we watched a video. I found it really interesting because I  heard about  Daniel's summer learning journey. Seeing Learning Space 2 being filmed was outstanding because they showed how confident they were and how they can share their learning with others. The Summer Learning Journey helps us to continue learning over the holidays in a fun and interesting way. I am very excited to take part in the Summer Learning Journey over the holiday break.

Collaborative Christmas Challenge

This week LS2 is learning about how to work as a team and how to work collaboratively. We discussed about different countries who celebrate Christmas. We were spilited into groups and had to choose a country that we would like to research about Christmas. We decided to research about Christmas in South Africa. We learnt a lot of new things about how people celebrate Christmas in different ways. We also learnt that Geseende Kersfees means Merry Christmas in South Africa. The thing we found interesting was that people in South Africa eat turkey and duck for Christmas meals. Above shows you our DLO about Christmas in South Africa and we made a screencastify to record our thinking about Christmas in South Africa.

summer learning journey

Last week the Summer Learning Journey instructor called Hazel came to our school and told us about the summer learning journey . I think the summer learning journey  is very important to do during the holidays because we can improve the learning and the activity's are fun. Also she talks about the prizes. They have fidget spinners,Lego,lollies and even books. 

 

Tamaki college social science

This week LS2 went to Tamaki college and I went  to social science we played a game called pursued-street view it was fun and the winners were jay-don, Daniel,Joshua v,freeman I got up to level twelve they were pretty hard but it was fun the hardest one for me was level 5 the easy on was level two me and my partner worked together to try and win. Then we planed a holiday for Mrs Anderson using google earth we had to roll the dice one time and write a story telling Mrs Anderson why she should go to the place. my dice rolled onto the Philippines and then me and Carl write     

Fire station message

Today I made this animation about fire safety message, I worked with Harlem and this term we were learning about how the community help us. This animation is about why you need to put the smoke alarm and why we need to turn of the stove when we are going to sleep.

Today we went to the fire station and we saw the fire fighters cutting a car up with the jaws of life and we also watched them spread the car apart and then we had a look through the fire engine and saw all the tools that they needed.they are trained to be the first res ponder 

maths strategy-screencastify

Today me San kyaw,affonso are working on maths strategy.we recorded or work off of screencastiy we had to read out our equation and then we worked out the answer and it was fifty. we used our times tables and out pluses. we counted  how many hexagons there is and how many triangles and then we added 44 then we added 6 more then our answer was 50.

Hammerheads Habitat

Today LS2 learnt about animal adaption. Animal adaption is when an animal has been living in an environment that might have some harsh conditions so it then adapts to that habitat to make it suitable for them. This is a DLO showing how Hammerhead Sharks adapt to their environment and how they are able to survive in their habitat.

Emergancey

For Inquiry we have been learning about the Emergency Services. I have created a DLO to show you what to do in an Emergency and who to call. We have to keep calm and speak clearly. It is  very important to never call the Emergency services for a joke. 

screencatify

On Friday we had Ms Grant teaching LS2 how to use screencastify. We were screencastifying our maths strategies. For this we first had to write our scripts, then we had to click on the Screencastify extension. After that we had to start recording. Setting this up took long, but we did it. It was great learning a new way to learn and share our work.  

The people in our local community

I used Tagul to create this word cloud that shows who the people in our local community. A community is a group of people who live in a common group that helps people when they need help 

Inter School Cross Country

Last Thursday Panmure Bridge School went to Bailey Road School for the Inter school Cross Country. The younger kids went first. All of them tried there hardest. After it was time for the older kids to race. Everyone lined up at the start point.  Once the horn was honked I raced off to the front. We had to do 4 laps around the School. When we went around four times I was exhausted. Then we got a mark on our hand. I was tired and wanted to go to sleep straight away but we had to wait for all of Panmure Bridge School to finish there race until we had to go.

kiwi can

Today we had kiwi Can. This week group b did hand soccer. Mr Malu and Miss Latoia gave us an activity. It was like using an object and using it to something else by acting. Rules are you can't do something the same as the other group.

After that we played a game called hand soccer, we had to use our hand instead of using our feet and pass the ball to each other before scoring a goal. This was working together as a team, we had lots of fun.

Today for food tech we made spaghetti with bacon and cheese pie we had to grab the staff we needed like knives,bowls,measuring spoons. we had to grab all of the cleaning products that we needed then  Mrs Hecker told us to grab pastry and spaghetti with cheese and then conbind them together we grabbed   the cup and clamped it then we traced it and put it in the muffin then added the food and then we put it in the oven and started to clean up then when we had finished the pies were ready and then we started to eat it and then we started walking back to the bus when we got on the bus they gave some to there friends and I already finished  

Tongan language week

This week is Tongan language so week we have created a DLO that shows how to make raw fish. The information is in English and in Tongan. My partner and I had to create the New Zealand translation to Tongan then me and Savelina had to record our self saying the ingredients of the raw fish then we started saying the ingredients in new Zealand and Tongan when we had finished that we said our bits and and then we went and checked our recording and took the mistakes out and went until it was finished      

Kiwi can taking risks

Today for Kiwi Can we played a game called hand soccer.  We had to pass the ball to everybody in the group before we could  try and score a goal. every body neende to contribute and participate. For a warm up we played bip bop bounce, the rules were if you don't say bang quickly you are out. The game goes on until there is one person left standing. Today the winner was Carl.

Today for tech we made milk shakes with oreo me and my partner Jericho.We made more then the other groups because we had got more ice cream then Mrs hecka. told us to make anther one then we drunk them and they were yum the milk shake had wipe cream with sprinkles chocolates topping we had to get all of our ingredients for our milk shake we had to put in 2 table spoons of usurp and 1 cup of ice cream then we had to combine them and put them in the blender then poor them into cups and then we got to dcreat them with oreo chocolate sprinkles and wipe cream

My Animated Digital Story relates to the context of Healthy Living in the Tamaki Community because eating healthy living is good for you and your body and littering is bad for the environment then it will be healthy and clean then it won’t make the air polluted

Rewindable learning

Today we had our dance practice. Yesterday we had our first lesson with our dance teacher called Zoe. We are doing Footloose so far we are mostly using our feet and a little bit of our arms we had to perform our dance lesson to the class and so we can rewind it and see what we need help with. We were split into three groups.   

Using a or an

Today we were learning when to use a and when to use an before a word. If a word begins with a vowel (a - e -i - o - u) or a silent h (eg: hour) we use an. 

• eg: I saw an umbrella flying.

We use a for all other words. 

• eg: I am eating a piece of fruit.

Today for tech we had to partner up with the same people as last week we had to use scratch to make our own animation story then we mad A google draw to write down the things that we had to use we got to upload the image that you wanted I uploaded a basket ball court and the other image was michael jordean  slum dunking

Let me tell you something about lunch times at PBS

Let me tell you something about lunch times at Panmure Bridge School. When the bell rings we all eat quickly to go and play handball. We run as fast as we can down the stairs and go and mark our places on the grid. When we get out we just want to be at the front of the line so we can have more turns, but when we get out we get quite angry. The people that win are happy because they don’t have to go to the back of the line. Everyone gets annoyed if people start to cheat because the line where you wait for a turn gets too big. If that happens I go and play handball somewhere else then. We start to play one V one until the line gets bigger then we start to play four square. We usually play on the court until the bell rings. When that happens we get a drink and walk to get a drink and go back to class and wait for the teachers.

Today we had to practice our  writing for 4 minutes. We had to read it to ourselves then read it to our partner. We had to proofread it by adding in words that we needed and taking out the bits that we didn’t need.

why is it important to keep storytelling alive

People is changing the old stories and putting more information in but in some traditions they have to keep it the same some old stories have become dust and lost and people carrying on next generations

Today at writing time LS2 had to write a summer about storie telling we had to show the class what we were learning about frist we had to watch and read these video about people talking about storytelling we had to write 25 words and take the best ones that you picket and write a summer with them it is important to to keep storytelling alive

In first block LS2 were learning about myths and legends we did story board that we had to show them instead of telling them the photo above shows maui and his brothers slowing  down the sun so it doesn't keep racing across the sky so they court the sun and hurt  him to make the days go longer then it was.

black out day PBS

Today panmure bridge school had black out day they had to come to school wearing red or back to show what team that they like the best I like the All Blacks better then the lions but some other people like the lions and the all blacks because they are going to play on Saturday then the kapa Haka group got in our places then Aj called the beginning of it the rest of the kap haka group stared then when we had finished we went out side and spelt the All Blacks well Mr Wong was fly the drone over us well we were spelling All blacks then Mr Wong had taken a photo of us spelling the All Blacks then we had line up and and pass the ball around the hole school saying All Blacks until we had passed the hole school then the reast of the school went to class but ls2 went and had a photo with our new school sign   

 

Harlem group B dance

Today me and Lyndon were practising our dance  we got filmed and we made it into a little movie we had to watch if we are in time or not so we no to practise on our timing so we can make it better the other groups were awesome good but most need to be in time.

This is a histogram chart that shows info about how long it takes to make rubbish get erased. It mostly takes tin cans over 50 to 100 years, aluminum cans take 80 years to get erased. When it comes to plastic bags it mostly takes forever for it to disappear in the ground.

Today at reading group A was on read theory we I did rugby is a full on contact game it is a very popular sport in other countries rugby player are called Ruggers  rugby player have no time to catch there breath the have no time out the only when player get a break is when it is half time they have a drink and something small to eat then they head back on the field then the team kicks of then it begins.

Pyramid Stories

We had fun learning to write a pyramid story with Miss Brett. We were all working together to think of describing words that helped us tell a story in a small amount of words.

Read Theory

When we do Read Theory we have to read the story then look carefully at the questions. When we answer the questions we have to try our best to get them right by looking back at the words in the words in the story. I got 4/6 questions right this time so I have to remember to look at what the question says.

World of Maths

On Tuesday afternoon year 5 - 8 were going to World of Maths. We went to mouse in the house and other activities but my best one was court vision because we had to look through the plastic and see if you had got it right. Then you write it down and keep going  until you have finished your work. Then you go to the next one. Then we went to square it up we had to make all the different blocks to make squares there were only few people that made a square.

In maths we were solving the multiplication questions using our place value knowledge.
